How many amps does an airfryer use when off grid?

How Many Amps Does An Air Fryer Use When Off-Grid?

Do you want to run your air fryer off-grid in your caravan?

We're going to run you through how to do it, and how many amps it draws.

For this experiment, we used the Ninja Max air fryer. The reason we chose to go with the Ninja, is because it holds a lot of different functions in the one air fryer.

It has 8 functions;

  • Pressure cook
  • Slow cook
  • Air fryer
  • Roast
  • Bake
  • Sear Sauté
  • Grill
  • and Dehydrate

It does all sorts of different things, and we like that functionality of it.

Soon we are going to be traveling on the road full-time, and we need something where we can cook lots of different things.

We've already used the Ninja air fryer to pressure cook;

  • Corned beef
  • Ribs (where we slow cooked, and then air fried them)
  • Spaghetti bolognese
  • Lots of potato gems
  • Chips
  • Sausage rolls
  • Roast chicken

you name it.

Within our caravan, we have 400ah of lithium, where our batteries were sitting at 100%. We placed some chips in the air fryer to see how many amps it would draw, how long the chips would take to cook, and how many amps of battery we would use over a period of time.

However, the amps drawn will differentiate depending on whether the air fryer is in air fryer mode, slow cooker mode, or pressure cooker mode, etc.

We put the mode on the air fryer for this experiment because it’s one of the most common questions that we get asked.

On the air fryer mode it automatically sets the temperature to 200 degrees. We set the timer for 20 minutes.

Straight away our Enerdrive ePro app shows that it went from drawing 4amps to 120amps per hour.

We let this run for 22min (we needed the extra 2min for extra crispness).

Running the air-fryer at 200degrees for 22 minutes, we used a total of 11% of our 400amp power system, or 44amps of our battery power was used in total to cook chips in the air fryer.

Bit of salt, bit of tomato sauce, and we are good to go.

Using the Ninja on the air-fryer mode draws the maximum amount of amps per hour. Slow cooker, pressure cooker, all uses less.

One of the big questions we get asked is what do I need to run my air fryer when off-grid?

In our van we have;

  • 400ah Lithium battery
  • Enerdrive 2,600watt Inverter - converts the 12v power stored in the batteries into 240volt power to run house appliances.
  • Then a way to charge your batteries - we have three
    • Solar Controller - charging via the solar panels on the roof
    • AC charger - to charge from 240volt power when in a caravan park
    • DC2DC charger to charge from the cars alternator when we drive

This air-fryer would require a minimum of 200ah Lithium Battery & 2,000w Inverter

So that's it. How many amps we used in our air fryer to cook some chips off-grid. Obviously, different settings will draw different currents, and different temperatures will draw different currents.

We also have a video on what you need to run your induction cooktop, and how many amps it draws, which you can view by clicking here.
