Isuzu NPS Truck Build Ep 7 – Full Off-Grid Electrical Setup

The BEST 12v Set-up for a full-time touring NPS Truck!

After 2 years of travelling full-time around Australia, we're giving you a full look at the off-grid electrical system we installed in our Isuzu NPS 4x4 truck.

In Episode 7 of the YouTube series, we take you through the key components that kept us powered up across remote desert crossings, beach camps, and snowy mountain trails.

Whether you’re planning your own big lap or just love geeking out on 12V setups, this is one episode you won’t want to miss.

Our Off-Grid Powerhouse – The Electrical Setup

Our NPS 4x4 truck was designed to be totally self-sufficient. That meant building a system we could rely on for:

  • Running a full upright fridge, freezer, induction cooktop and coffee machine

  • Charging camera gear, laptops, phones, and power tools

  • Running lights, water pumps, diesel heater, and rooftop tent motors

  • Powering the 240V system without needing a generator

  • Topping up with solar and vehicle charge while we toured

Here's how we made it all happen:

Power System Specs

🔋 Battery

  • 2 x Invicta 12V 200Ah Slimline Lithium Batteries

  • Wired in parallel for 400Ah of usable lithium storage

Charging

  • Redarc Manager30 – handles DC charging, AC charging, and solar input all in one

  • 2 x RedArc BCDC 40Amp – double power

  • Vehicle Alternator Charge – thanks to the Redarc BMS

  • Mounted Solar - 500w

🔌 Power Distribution

  • Redarc RedVision System – full control and monitoring

  • Redarc TVMS Rogue – distributes power to all 12V and 240V systems

  • Simarine Battery Monitor – tracks volts, amps, consumption, and solar input

🔌 Inverter

  • Enerdrive 2600W Inverter – runs all our 240V appliances with ease

⚙️ Other Gear

  • 12V fan, diesel heater, water pumps, rooftop tent motor controllers, 240V power points

  • GPOs throughout the canopy for charging

  • Dual USB and 12V cig outlets across both sides

  • 3 x ARB  Double Pumpers Air Compressors

Where It’s All Mounted

All the gear was installed on a laser-cut aluminium board inside the canopy. It’s easy to access, tidy, and well protected.

Cabling was run cleanly between the canopy, rooftop tent, and truck cab – keeping everything waterproof and dust-proof for off-road travel.

Real-World Performance

We spent weeks at a time in remote spots without ever plugging into mains power. Even in overcast conditions, the combination of alternator charge and solar kept our system topped up.

The only thing we wish we’d added earlier? A bit more solar mounted to the roof – something we’ll do on the next build.
