RAM 1500 DT Build – The Ultimate Touring Setup

This RAM 1500 DT Laramie came into our workshop for a complete off-grid transformation. The owner wanted a capable touring rig with onboard power, air, and communications – all while keeping everything neat and reliable for long trips. Here’s a detailed look at what we installed.

Dual Battery System in the RamBox

We started by fitting a 200Ah Invicta Black Lithium Battery into the driver’s side RamBox. To keep it charged, we paired it with a Redarc Alpha 50A BCDC Charger – a premium charging solution that ensures the battery is always topped up whether towing, touring, or running accessories.

For power distribution, we added:

• Grey Anderson Plug for a dedicated fridge circuit, neatly mounted in the passenger-side tub

• 12V Cigarette Socket and Dual USB A/USB-C Port on the driver’s side rear

• Additional Grey Anderson Plug also on the driver’s side rear

• Red Anderson Plug at the towbar for solar charging input

To handle heavier power needs, we installed a Redarc 2000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter, mounted inside the RamBox. We paired this with a Redarc Inverter Remote Switch and a weatherproof double power point, giving the owner a clean and practical way to run 240V appliances when off-grid.

ARB On-Board Air System

Next, we tackled onboard air. We fitted an ARB Twin Cylinder Compressor using a dedicated Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Compressor Mount in the driver’s side cubby. The system includes:

• Remote chuck & switch

• 6m ARB air hose

• ARB digital inflator

We also ran air outlets to both sides of the vehicle, making tyre inflation and air tool use easy from anywhere around the RAM.

GME UHF Radio System

For communications, we supplied and fitted a GME XRS™ Connect 4WD Pack. This setup keeps the main unit hidden, with all controls, screen, speaker, and mic built into the handpiece for a clutter-free install.

We mounted a short stumpy AE4704B antenna on a GMF bonnet bracket (passenger side) and wired the system to ignition/accessories for seamless use.

Bullbar, Lighting & Winch

Up front, this RAM is now protected by an Offroad Animal Predator Bullbar – designed for strength, approach angle, and aggressive styling. We complemented it with:

• Offroad Animal 4” Halo fog lights

• Predator style stealth top with Type D LED light

• Two Offroad Animal Slim 32” LED light bars

To ensure recoveries are never an issue, we fitted a Carbon Scout Pro 15,000lb V3 electric winch with black rope and hook.

We also installed a RAM camera relocation kit, ensuring the OEM front camera integrates perfectly with the new bar.

Extras for Touring Comfort

To finish off this build, we added:

• Blackvue front & rear dash cam for safety and recording

• Evakool 95L fridge for reliable cold storage on the road

• Isolated Anderson plug at the rear for additional accessories

• Two Safety Dave cables pre-run to the rear for future expansion
