Chevy 2500D Touring Upgrade – Power, Comms & Lighting Sorted
This week in the workshop we had the pleasure of working on a Chevy 2500D, giving it a serious touring upgrade with a mix of customer-supplied gear and our in-house expertise. The end result? A sleek, factory-looking fit-out that delivers the power, comms and lighting needed for touring Australia.
Under-Seat Cubby with Dual Battery Setup
We started with one of our custom under-seat cubbies, fitted neatly under the rear passenger bench. This unit houses the customer’s supplied components wherever possible, making use of quality gear they already had on hand. The cubby keeps everything tucked away and still leaves the cabin looking clean and uncluttered.

Passenger Side Power Hub – Inverter & Monitoring
On the passenger side, we mounted the inverter for easy access and paired it with a Victron BMV battery monitor. This gives the owner real-time visibility of battery performance and ensures reliable off-grid power management.

Tub Power – Weatherproof Convenience
Touring setups live and die by their usability, so we fitted out the tub with a full bank of outlets. This included two GPOs in weatherproof caravan-style housings, plus a mix of sockets for USB, cigarette, Engel and Anderson plugs. No matter what needs charging or powering at camp, this Chevy has it covered.

To make it even more versatile, we wired in an isolated Anderson plug at the rear – ready to charge the caravan when it’s hitched up.
Comms – UHF Install Finished Off
We wrapped up the comms side of the build by completing the UHF install. The handpiece was mounted on a passthrough in the centre console, keeping it tidy but still within easy reach for the driver.

Lighting – 22" Light Bar
To finish off the build, we mounted a 22" light bar on the front. It adds plenty of illumination for those remote tracks and gives the truck a tough, finished look.

The Result
This Chevy 2500D now has a smart, factory-finish power system with all the essentials for towing, touring and camping. From keeping devices charged in the tub, to running an inverter off the passenger side, to caravan charging on the go, the setup is versatile and ready for the road. Add in the UHF and lighting upgrades, and it’s built to handle whatever the next adventure throws at it.
